Groundwater monitoring system in Uzbekistan

The problem of high groundwater levels was declared by the President of Uzbekistan to be a national problem of paramount importance.

In 2013, the O'zgashKliti Institute in Tashkent, in collaboration with Gorex analyt GmbH and business partner Eijkelkamp, developed a system that would allow the state to monitor groundwater.

For this project, CTD Diver devices were used to measure groundwater level, electrical conductivity and temperature. Well modems were also used to monitor surface water levels, wastewater, flow, soil moisture, soil conductivity and other quality parameters in the city of Urgench and its surrounding area.

Project scope:

  • Location: Urgench and surrounding area, Uzbekistan
  • Monitoring network: 40 wells
  • Key equipment: CTD Diver devices and well modems
  • Measured parameters: groundwater level, electrical conductivity, temperature, surface water levels, wastewater, flow, soil moisture, soil conductivity and other quality parameters
